More about Richburg...

The Town of Richburg and the area surrounding it are considered to have the highest
potential for future economic development.  The Chester County Economic Development
Strategic Plan cites our greatest strengths as location and the proximity to the I-77
Megasite, our quality of life, our economic development organization, and our pro
business attitude.  The Town of Richburg exhibits the beauty of old rural South Carolina
while being poised and ready for rapid quality growth.

Richburg enjoys an exceptionally low crime rate, and Chester County provides well-
equipped and staffed police. We have an EMS substation, and the Richburg Fire
Department is mostly manned by volunteers with the exception of one full-time employee.

Even though the town is small, it has always maintained a large and deep-rooted faith-
based community.  Several denominations exist in Richburg and dwell in the familiar
small country church setting that makes everyone feel welcome.  Several of our churches
can trace their beginnings back to the 18th century, and with their foundations made
stronger by having survived many political and social events, they now serve as spiritual
centers within the community.  The denominations which currently exist within the Town
of Richburg include AME Zion, ARP, Baptist, and Methodist.

Our town
slogan, “History and Progress”, reflects both Richburg’s progressive look to the
future and the revelation of our pride in our citizens and history.

Come, visit one of South Carolina’s best kept secrets in small town living and explore our
impressive past, meet our friendly citizens, experience our old-fashioned Southern
hospitality, and discover all the unique qualities that make the Town of Richburg feel like
home.

Climate & Gardening
Climate & Gardening...

Richburg exhibits a mild climate with an average summer temperature of
73.9 degrees and an average winter temperature of 45.4 degrees and an
average annual rainfall of 45.4". March is our  wettest month with 4.8" of
rain on average - October our driest with 2.7". The area gets a rare dusting
of snow and a much much more rare tropical storm or hurricane. We are
justified in being proud of our lawns and gardens. The town lies along the
southern edge of gardening zone seven.

The area supports many  plants seen in the North such as Bearded  Iris,
Daffodils and Tulips which will all return for many years. After they bloom in
the spring our gardens put forth profuse displays of wisteria and fragrant
honeysuckle , jasmine, and gardenias and stand upon stand of brilliant
day lilies all of which delight in our mild winters.

We also find it easy to grow many tropicals with Hibiscus, Bougainvillea
and Bromeliads finding themselves right at home until fall when they can
be treated as annuals or offered winter protection. Our Banana Trees
come back each year but often don't have time to set fruit.

Our lawns are brilliant green in spring and normally dry out in mid summer
without extra water. Our palms are for the most part Sawgrass Palmettos
but some hardier tropical palms can be coaxed in winter protected spots.

We are known for our pecan harvests, our local peaches, strawberries,
melons and tomatoes but many other fruits, nuts and vegetables can be
grown here as well.
