Visitor's Information

The Town of Richburg lies at the heart of the Olde English District - one of 11 tourism districts
in South Carolina. With a rich history, short distance to two major metropolitan areas and a
number of smaller cities our area offers a wide range of things to do. Whether you are
thinking of relocating or travelling we have an array of interesting spots to enjoy.

Just about two miles west of the center of town are six hotels and ten restaurants that offer a
variety of fast food, Chinese and a charming spot with excellent country style cooking. Ten
miles east on the banks of the Catawba River is a restaurant  where you can order excellent
fresh fish, The Catawba Fish Camp.

Fourteen miles north along I-77 is Rock Hill, a major bedroom community for Charlotte. This
charming small city offers rapidly expanding and wide ranging options for shopping, lodging
and dining. Also located there is the new Manchester Meadows site, a 70 acre soccer
complex with 2 championship and 6 regulation fields. Manchester Meadows also has
spectator seating for 1500, meeting space, picnic and concession areas and walking and
biking trails. Seven miles west is the Rodman Sports Complex.

If history and antiquing are your interests, we are a short drive to historic Camden and
Winnsboro both steeped in Revolutionary and Civil War history .  Our nearby Landsford Canal
State Park is the best preserved of the 19th century river canals and is now a state park
featuring one of the world's largest stands of Rocky Shoal Spider Lilies which bloom in May
and you may just spot a resident pair of nesting eagles.

Nearby historic Brattonsville has a beautifully restored white frame Italian villa - Hightower
Hall (formerly Forrest Hall) built in 1856. Brattonsville was the scene for a great deal of the
filming for the recent Mel Gibson movie
The Patriot. This location also hosts an award
winning heritage farm project and the Walt Schrader Trails. Other scenes from the same
movie were shot near Fishing Creek.

Dotted across the area are more charming antique shops than it is possible to count and a
wide variety of artists studios and galleries.

If its camping, canoing and hiking you are looking for a number of  parks besides Landsford
Canal are close by including Chester State Park, Woods Ferry recreation Area, Andrew
Jackson State Park, Kings Mountain Military Park and State Park and Lake Wateree State
Park, the Carolina Thread Trail, the Catawba River Canoe Trail with a 30 mile stretch of
un-dammed  river that is for the most part a wilderness excursion with ten public access
points and over 50 area campgrounds.

If racing excites you our area has it all. From sailing races to dirt track at our own I-77
Raceway as well as 4 wheeler and dirt bike events to the south. We are a short drive to
Lowe's Motor Speedway where you can see NASCAR racing where the sport was born. For a
more historic event not far to the south of us you can attend steeplechase horse racing with
the Carolina's Cup in the spring and the Colonial Cup in the fall - both at Springdale Race
Course in Camden.

We have several golf courses in the Richburg area and are a reasonable drive to some of the
most well known courses in the world. We are also proud of our many museums from
historical and transportation to energy, the environment and a host of others.

No discussion of what to do in our area would be complete without reference to Carowinds, a
112 acre theme park with over 50 world class rides, shows and attractions. The site has a 20
acre water park, 12 roller coasters and the 55 acre Camp Wilderness Resort.

Remember - when you have done all this we are less than three hours to the Carolina Coast
or the Great Smoky Mountains with another whole lifetime of things to do and see in each.
